Memorial Day

We had a great Memorial Day. It was very relaxing with lots of pool time. We went out for dinner and the girls dressed in their patriotic clothing for the event.

Daisy appears to be ready for summer, also. She's excited to have her girls back at home and to be able to take long naps on the ledge.

Memorial Day Weekend---Summer Begins

The girls last day of school was Friday! They were both a little sad to leave their teachers. But, we started things off with a fun pool party at a neighbor's house.

Then it was back home to greet my sister and niece who were coming for the weekend!!! So excited to see them. We shared our "favorite things". Each of us came up with a favorite thing and bought one for the other girls. It was so fun to see what we all got and it was all different---nail polish, body poof, ring holder, notebook, pen, air freshener, cup, and lip gloss.

Thanking the Teachers

At the end of the school year I like to come up with a little something for all of the specialist teachers (ART, PE, Library, etc.), as well as, the office staff and bus drivers. So, I put together notepads and these cute little popcorn packets from Costco. Simple, but a little something to say thanks. I created 21 of those.

In addition to the popcorn gifts, we gave the main teachers (Shelly's teacher and Lily's homeroom teacher) the annual end-of-the-year gift bag with a beach towel, magazine, water bottle, and gift card to the frozen yogurt place. This year I got a reusable bag for the gift bag and it is so cute.

Award Winning Students

The girls had their awards assemblies this week. Always love to see them up there on stage with their smiling faces. So proud of both of my girls.

4 Weeks Post Cheilectomy

Ok, this might be a bit much for those who aren't into feet or post surgery photos. So, if you fall into either of those categories, feel free to click on out of the ol' blog. I get it!

This is my foot four weeks after the surgery to remove the bone spur. There is still some swelling and a bit of discomfort, but overall the foot feels okay.

The steri-strips finally came off this week and I placed a band aid over the wound when wearing my sandals and flip flops. Oh, and I changed my toenail polish!

Daisy was very interested in my foot during the little photo shoot. She couldn't stay away!

And, here's a close-up of the surgery site. I have lots of dry skin issues since the surgery. My skin around my toes is literally just peeling off. I know, gross! And, it's happening on all of my toes and all over my right foot. Weird.

Just wanted to keep those who might be interested (MY DAD!) informed of my progress.

Field Trip Girl

Field Trip Girl

Right after the stitches came out of my foot, Shelly was scheduled to go on a field trip. It was a trip we had been talking about since August and we were both so excited about the idea of going together. Shelly's class was going to the Lazy 5 Ranch where they got to see animals and feed them while going on a hay ride.

The big bummer...my foot was in no shape to go walking around through the animal ranch and I certainly couldn't get into the cart for the hay ride. I was soooooooo disappointed I wasn't able to go. But, my sweet girl was fine with it all and handled it beautifully. She was very excited for the field trip and was happy to have a great partner for the day. I was thankful for that. When she got home she told me all about her day and all the fun she had.

I must say that two of my least favorite mommy moments happened back to back. Moments where I felt like I was letting my girls down. They never seemed to feel that way, but I sure did. Not being able to go on the field trip with Shelly bummed me out and I also felt badly that I couldn't take Lily to the band concert at her school. John offered to take her and we had a neighbor who also offered to take her to the concert. But, I think she just really wanted me to go with her and I couldn't. Hate that I had to bale out on her. But, as I said, neither of the girls seemed upset about these changes and they were both more than kind to me about it. I'm a lucky momma.

Happy and Excited!

Summer's Coming!

There are only 7.5 days left of the girls' school year!!!! So over the top excited for this year to end. Not because it was bad, but because it feels so good to have this milestone under our belt---new school for Lily and Shelly on her own at the elementary school. They both did so well and I couldn't be happier with their successes this year.

But, now, it's time to prepare for a nice long summer break! We will definitely be creating another Summer Fun list. Here's the list from last year:

And here's the list from 2008:

Not sure if I took photos of our lists in 2009 or 2010, but we did make them. I love the idea of the list as a guide, as motivation, and as a reminder of what we accomplished. I have never felt pressure to complete all of the items. I think it's a bit exciting to know we brainstormed so many fun ideas that we couldn't fit them all in to our schedule.

And, here are some other cute Summer list ideas that are out there:

Lots of great ideas and lots to look forward to this summer! Have fun!
