Movie Reviews

This summer we have spent quite a bit of time at the movie theater. The girls and I love a good flick. So, for others who haven't yet seen some of these shows, here is our quick little review guide:
Photobucket

The first movie I didn't see myself, but the girls went with their cousin Krissy to see it. Lily is giving this one a C and says that it wasn't as good as the other Shreks. My niece (a 17 year old) also mentioned that it wasn't that great.

The next movie we saw was Toy Story 3. We agree that this one is about a B (maybe even a B-). I was disappointed with the somewhat dark side of this flick.

I was pleasantly surprised with Despicable Me. I had no real expectations, but this one really came through with a good story line. We are rating this one an A-. Oh, and we especially enjoyed the soundtrack for this movie.

Ramona and Beezus was, by far, the best of the movies we have seen this summer. The plot was entertaining for kids and parents, alike. This movie receives a solid A!!!

You'll notice the lack of movie reviews for anything dark or scary. We just aren't into those shows. So, if you see one of the spooky movies, you're on your own!

Warm and Fuzzy

On Wednesday, we came back home from our trip to Atlanta and Alabama. We were travelling with a total of 7 people in our minivan and that just wasn't enough...we needed to stop to pick up our new kitty. We added one more sweet little warm body to the mix. She's a long haired mixed breed (maybe Himalayan or Birman???). We named her Chloe and she is a little doll. We love every bit of her 13 ounces.

And, just to prove that Shelly is dealing with the new addition fairly well, I captured a very poor quality image of her with Chloe on her lap:

7 people, 4 states, and Over 1,000 Miles

That's what our last week was all about. We travelled from NC to Atlanta with 7 people in our minivan. Guess what? It wasn't bad. We all had a spot in the car and we talked most of the ride. It was a fun trip with John's family. After a few days in Atlanta we headed with the Foster 4 to Alabama. It was a nice little side trip, but we were eager to return to John's aunt and uncle's home. So, back to Atlanta we went. It was a nice time and it included---a trip to the Georgia aquarium, lots of pool time, a visit to the American Girl store, a ride in the rain in downtown Montgomery, many stops at various Harley shops (and the purchase of this cute helmet for me), and quality time with family (lots of card playing!!!). Here are photos of the adventure:

Around Our House---

This is our current desktop on the computer. I think I am beginning to believe this. I have a great family and lots of love in our life.

Lots of books are floating around our house these days.

And lots of reading, too!

A fun little chalkboard I put in our guest bathroom. Not the best photo, but you get the idea. This little chalkboard was my mom's in the 70's. She would paint on the chalkboards and on the back of this little board is the outline of an image she intended to paint one day. I like that!

Pocketless Pita Pizzas

For dinner the other night we decided to have pita pizzas. My sister recommended these yummy pocketless pitas from Costco. So, I gave them a try. She prepares her pizzas and grills them. We had a rainy evening when I fixed these so I just baked them in the oven at 375 for about 7-10 minutes.

It's fun for kids to create their own food masterpieces...seems they are more willing to eat what they make. Lily even had a second pizza---I think she shared some of it with Shelly.

Our simple ingredients were:

Pocketless pitas, Pizza sauce, mozzerella cheese, pepperoni, roasted red peppers, carmelized onions, and chopped artichokes

Our cute new Target plates make the pizza even yummier

Bake and enjoy!!! Fun dinner!

Misty

Lily has been doing quite a bit of reading this summer. We read this book at night before bed and we both really enjoyed the story. Hard to believe it was written in the 40's. The true story of these ponies is so interesting. Now I think a trip to Chincoteague Island is in order. And Pony Penning Day is just a few days away.

Ladies Who Lunch

One of our little past times in the summer includes "getting a bite to eat" when we are in town. There are many places where we like to do lunch---Steak 'N Shake, Bruegger's, Panera's, Elizabeth's, and Red Robin to name a few. Here are the ladies lunching at Red Robin. Oh, how I love summer and the carefree schedule.

And, Shelly's hair isn't really pink. It's a glow from a sign above us.

Baby Cat

Here are some recent photos from our cat rescuer. She is still taking great care of our little fluffy girl. Soon we will be able to bring her home! Can't wait!!

He Got One

So, while I was pining over the new kitty-to-be, John was searching for a Harley Davidson motorcycle. He found one. He bought it from a 73 year-old man and it is in mint condition. The girls are thrilled about it all. They are only allowed to ride it in the neighborhood. I like it. He loves it.

It's Raining...

What to do on a rainy day:

  • Stay in your pajamas
  • Read a book
  • Paint pictures using corn syrup paint!

This was such a fun and easy project and you can lick the paint, too. I love this particular blog site.
