A Wedding Story

On Saturday evening Lily's teacher got married. She was sweet to include her class in the celebration. Myself and another mom took eleven children to the church for the ceremony. They all looked so cute and were so well behaved. I think they really enjoyed seeing their teacher up there in her beautiful dress with her new husband. It was such a fun event for her students.

Memorial Day Weekend

On this Memorial Day weekend, I am thinking of my mom. I miss her so much. The other day I had a conversation with her while I was in my bedroom. I just kind of rambled on about my day in hopes that she would hear me. Love and miss you so much, mom.

It has been a busy week/weekend. Lily finished up gymnastics on Monday. She completed her three days of EOG testing on Thursday and then she received her results on Friday (she did great!). Friday, Shelly attended a birthday party and yesterday Lily and I (and another mom) took 11 of the students from her class to their teacher's wedding. Last night was perfect...a cookout, Mike's Hard Limeade, and a golf cart ride!!!

Hope you are all enjoying a fun weekend.

Ten on Tuesday

1. Testing began today for Lily. I am not a fan of standardized tests. I am also not a fan of the undue pressure that is placed on kids to perform well. Lily was in tears this morning about the test taking. This is a child who has made straight A's all year. She shouldn't be worried, but she is. I am not happy about it.

2. I went to my dentist today. I love her! She is cool, pretty, fashionable, and hip. She is also the person who cleans your teeth. So, by the end of the appointment she really knows my teeth. I like that.

3. I am working on a little project that I hope will make the people involved happy.

4. I am coming up on 4 graduations over 15 days! So exciting to see what is next for all of these young people.

5. Here are photos of the girls in their school pictures.

6. Lily and I are going to her teacher's wedding on Saturday. Lily is super excited about it.

7. I made an angel food cake the other day. Both of the girls really liked it. I am glad they are following in my footsteps when it comes to angel food cake. I love it! My mom always made me an angel food cake for my birthday.

8. Several summers ago we made a list of summer activities to accomplish. I think we will do this again.

9. The girls still have 13.5 days of school left! Thanks snow days---ugh!!!

10. Tonight we are having chicken pot pie for dinner. It is a big hit around here.

Field Trips

As I was thinking about Shelly's field trip to the beach, it reminded me of a field trip I took the summer after 9th grade. We went to Philadelphia for a week! And my mom was one of the teacher/chaperones. I cannot even imagine taking a group of 14 year-olds out of town let alone out of the state for a week. She was brave (as were the other teachers who chaperoned us). On that trip we visited Valley Forge, the Liberty Bell, the Franklin Institute, the Philadelphia Zoo, ate at Bookbinders, and even went down the hotel elevator with Grace Slick from Jefferson Starship. It was an amazing trip and I am so thankful that my mom helped organize it for all of us.

My mom is the one on the far left wearing her blue espadrilles...loved those shoes!

Shelly and I just returned home from our three day beach trip with her Kindergarten class. It was fun, busy, exciting, delicious, and priceless. We had a terrific time at Carolina Beach. I can't think of a better way to spend time with my sweet little Kindy girl. And the teachers at her school were the best! Great time was had by all!!!

Memories

Recently my sister and I got together to have some reel-to-reel tapes put on cds for my dad. They were tapes that were created over a few years in the 60s when my dad was deployed in the Navy and my mom was back home in California with me and my sisters. There were also tapes between my mom and her mother, as well as, several other relatives.  It was an amazing experience to hear my mom's voice. It was so comforting and emotional all at once. I loved hearing her tape to my grandmother. It was so reminiscent of the conversations I had with my mom on the phone. She was talking to her mom about the ordinary every day activities in her life. Just as I would do with my mom.

I am so thankful that we now have these tapes to listen to for a lifetime. But, I am most thankful that my father  can take the time to listen to these cds and remember these times in his life.
(my sisters and my mom)

As an aside, it was fun to hear my sisters when they were little. Very, very cute. And, there are a few snippets of me cooing and babbling when I was little. Fun to hear.

Showered with ♥

Lily's terrific 4th grade teacher is getting married in a couple of weeks. So, a few of the moms got together to throw her a surprise shower at the school. We set up in the library and I think she was very surprised.

Lily loves her and can't wait to attend her wedding. So exciting.
