Road Trip

We had such a nice time together on a little road trip the past few days. We left on Saturday and combined John's business with some pleasure. We arrived in Charleston and stayed at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina. The hotel was located right down the harbor from the USS Yorktown. We took a water taxi over to the SC Aquarium and inside the aquarium, we saw a bald eagle...pretty cool. We went to the Boulevard Diner for dinner and had some really delicious southern food. I had the shrimp & grits ravioli---awesome!!! It was also Charleston's Harborfest and there were many tall ships and lots of people. We had fun at the hotel pool and Lily and Shelly got to see a wedding reception on the property. They loved it and were dying to be invited to the festivities. In Charleston, we went to The Market, Rainbow Row, the Battery, and the Waterfront Fountain. We also travelled back and forth across the Cooper River bridge many times. It was a fun-filled few days. We hit a few outlet shops while John worked at one of the company's he does business with in Charleston. From Charleston, we headed to Anderson, SC. Clemson University is right around the corner from Anderson, so we went to the campus to check it out and took a few photos at the football stadium. That night we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn and it was really nice. I have lots of hotel issues...trouble sleeping on the pillows, walking on the carpets, etc...and this hotel exceeded most of my demands. Great night's sleep. Oh, and we heard that Renee Zellweger, George Clooney, and John Krasinski all stayed at this hotel while filming Leatherheads. Cool. On our way home from SC, we passed through Gaffney (the peach capital) and stopped to buy some peaches, peach cider, and fireworks! So far this summer, we have gone from Virginia to North Carolina to South Carolina. We are hoping to add Georgia and Tennessee to our 5 state summer tour!

Sad

Today marks the loss of two of my childhood icons.
This is the Michael Jackson I remember and loved.

And this is the Farrah Fawcett I loved to watch in the mid 70s.

Sad.

Dad's Day Fun

We had a nice Father's Day celebration.
It started with a breakfast of eggs and cinnamon rolls and then moved on to gift opening. We selected a new bathing suit, shirts, and some flip flops for daddy-o.The girls also posed for a little photo that we printed for his wallet.

Then we moved on to an afternoon swim for the whole family.
For dinner, we enjoyed some steak, shrimp, feta topping, mashed potatoes, and yeast rolls.
The evening ended up with the classic Foster dessert...Carvel's ice cream cake and kisses.

My Favorite Dads

I know there are many people who think they have the best dad ever, but I know that I truly do!!! He has always been a man of 100% integrity and he has shown us how to be good people by his example. I really don't know of a soul who doesn't like my dad. He is very likable. I miss him so much and am thrilled that I have been able to see him several times over the past few months. I hope he has a terrific day and I hope he knows how much I love him!!!Now, this isn't my only favorite dad. The other important father around here is Lily and Shelly's pop! They love their daddy so much and I am so thankful for him. He loves his girls more than anything and is such a good father to them. We hope he has a super Father's Day, too.

Looking for Signs

I feel as if I spend lots of time seeking signs from my mom.
Any type of communication from her is what I desire.
So, as strange as this may sound, I spent the morning cleaning out my craft supply closets.
And, as I did this I thought of my mother and her love of craft supplies.
Then as I went about reorganizing these items I felt an overwhelming need to label all of the things I put back in drawers and on shelves.
My mom loved to label EVERYTHING.
It felt really good to know she would have been pleased with what I did today.
I miss her.

In the car...

Playing around with the video camera while driving back from VB. Not so sure this is a great idea.

Last Day & The Beach

Lily's last day of school was on the 12th.

She loved 3rd grade.
Here she is getting on the bus and me taking a photo through the golf cart windshield.

Lily and her wonderful teacher, Mrs. Lee.

I picked her up a little early and we headed to VB to surprise my dad.
He was surprised!
We spent lots of time with my sister Linda and her family.
We even went to the beach!
Usually a trip to VB doesn't include much beach time, but this time it did.
The girls loved it.
Our friends met us there and Lily loved being with Julia again.

My aunt and uncle came for a couple of days with their granddaughter.
Noelle, Shelly, and Lily all hit it off and had fun at the pool, the beach, and making fusion bead animals thanks to Aunt Marilyn.

It was a fun start to our summer of fun.
